MiSight Contact Lenses for Myopia Control in Redding
Shasta Professional Eyecare Center is proud to be the only practice in Redding offering MiSight® 1 day contact lenses — the first and only FDA-approved soft contact lens proven to slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children. Even better: we can typically have lenses in-office and ready for your child within just a few days.
What Are MiSight® 1 Day Contact Lenses?
MiSight 1 day lenses from CooperVision are daily disposable soft contact lenses designed specifically for children with myopia. They look and feel like regular contacts — but they do something standard contacts cannot: help slow the progression of nearsightedness over time.
MiSight lenses use CooperVision’s patented ActivControl® Technology, which applies two correction zones in each lens — one to correct current nearsightedness, and one to create myopic defocus around the peripheral retina, signaling the eye to slow its elongation.
FDA-Approved and Clinically Proven
MiSight 1 day is the first and only FDA-approved* soft contact lens for myopia management in children. In a landmark 3-year randomized clinical trial:
- Myopia progression slowed by 59% on average vs. standard single vision daily lenses
- 95–100% of children preferred MiSight over glasses at every visit throughout the study
- Children as young as 8 handled the lenses confidently shortly after fitting
- Proven effective and safe across 6 years of clinical data
*Indicated for children ages 8–12 at initiation of treatment with myopia of -0.75 to -4.00 D and astigmatism ≤ 0.75 D.
The Only MiSight Provider in Redding
Shasta Professional Eyecare Center is currently the only practice in the Redding area offering MiSight 1 day contact lenses. Families throughout Redding, Anderson, Palo Cedro, and Shasta County can access this technology right here at SPEC — and we can typically have lenses ready for your child within just a few days of fitting.

Why Children Love MiSight
- Daily disposable — fresh, clean lenses every day; no cleaning solutions needed
- Comfortable soft lens material for all-day wear
- Freedom from glasses during sports, activities, and school
- Easy-to-learn insertion and removal — children adapt quickly
- 95–100% of wearers preferred them over glasses in clinical studies
What to Expect
Your child’s journey with MiSight begins with a comprehensive eye exam and myopia evaluation at SPEC. If MiSight is a good fit, your doctor will conduct a contact lens fitting and teach your child proper wear and care. Lenses are worn during waking hours — not overnight — and discarded at the end of each day. Follow-up visits allow your SPEC doctor to monitor myopia progression and adjust the plan as needed.
Who Is a Candidate?
- Children ages 8–12 at the start of treatment
- Myopia prescription between -0.75 D and -4.00 D
- Astigmatism of 0.75 D or less
- Motivated child (and supportive parent) ready to try contact lenses
Not sure if your child is ready for contacts? Our doctors will guide you through the assessment and make a recommendation based on your child’s maturity, prescription, and comfort level.
